Note: Prices on the Outback FM
controllers went up on Nov 16 due to
manufacturers price increase.
OutBack’s real time active Maximum Power
Point Tracking (MPPT) system ensures
that your solar array is operating at
its peak power point regardless of age,
shading or environmental conditions –
increasing the performance by 10-30%.
The FLEXmax series wide DC input range
and 60-80 amp DC output current rating
for 12, 24, 36, 48, or 60 VDC systems
provides unmatched flexibility in the
wiring as well as the sizing of your
solar array.
The ability to efficiently step-down a
high voltage solar array to a low
voltage battery is one of the major
advantages of these and other MPPT
charge controllers. This feature can
save you money by reducing the size of
wire required and making the
installation simpler and faster. Since
you can often just wire up several solar
panels in series without the need of a
junction box or array combiner, wiring
is usually very simple.
All Outback Power products must use
the Outback "RTS" temperature sensor -
if you are replacing or upgrading your
controller from another manufacturer,
you must replace the old battery
temperature sensor.
Solar Controller EMI and RF Noise Note:
We have had some reports of high RF
interference (EMI) noise being radiated
by the Outback Flexmax controllers. If
your solar system is being used for any
type of communications system, such as
cell phone relay, ham radio, or similar
then we recommend that you use the
Xantrex XW-SCC or the Morningstar TS-MPPT
charge controllers. Those are the
currently the only solar charge
controllers certified to FCC Class B,
Part 15. This noise may also affect AM
radio and TV reception.
